Heritage Crafts: Sustaining Skills from the Past
Heritage crafts encompass the traditional skills and techniques used by artisans for generations, crafting everything from textiles to tools with methods honed through centuries. These crafts are more than just objects; they are expressions of culture, creativity, and the deep connection between people and the materials of the land.
As mass production and modern technologies replace handmade techniques, many of these valuable skills are at risk of disappearing. By preserving heritage crafts, we not only maintain a vital link to our history but also support sustainable practices and local economies. Keeping these skills alive ensures that the artistry and ingenuity of the past continue to inspire the future.
Each of the pages below has a list of contact details for people, companies, organisations… If you find any errors or omissions, please let us know at Support@EndangeredBritish.com and we will do our best to rectify it as soon as we can.
Among our appreciation for the many organisations supporting heritage crafts, we would like to specifically thank The Heritage Crafts Association [https://www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/about/] who work tirelessly “provide a focus for craftspeople, groups, societies and guilds, as well as individuals who care about the loss of traditional crafts skills, and work towards a healthy and sustainable framework for the future,” and in particular to their ‘Red List of Endangered Crafts’, published since 2017.
Thank you! These crafts take a lifetime to learn and the only way we keep them alive is by supporting wonderful craftspeople such as these…
